The following is an excerpt of the last will and testament of David Phillips of the town of Glocester, County of Providence, State of Rhode Island. This material was recorded in the legal record titled Highways and Wills, Volume 2, Glocester and covered pages 362-365. This is an old record book maintained at the Town Hall of Glocester and because of its dates and handwriting, the document was difficult to read. Roger and Karol Phillips copied this record on August 23, 2007, at the Glocester Town Hall. We tried to take pictures of the document but were not very successful in getting a picture that could be viewed with any clarity or understanding. In recording this document we also took the liberty to change letters in the words - f and s - to more readily understand the document.

Title: The genealogical dictionary of Rhode Island : comprising three generations of settlers who came before 1690 (with many families carried to the fourth generation)
Author: by John Osborne Austin (1849-1918).
Reprint. Originally published: Albany, N.Y. : Joel Munsell's Sons, 1887. viii, 440 p. With a new foreword by Albert T. Klyberg, librarian, The Rhode Island Historical Society, and the additions and corrections.
On page 152 was recorded some information on Michael Phillips and his wife Barbara from Newport, RI. Michael is to have died prior to 1689, and Barbara after 1706. Michael and Barbara had six children, John, William, James, Richard, Joseph and Alice. John and William were born in Newport, RI and the remaining children were born in Providence or Smithfield, RI.
One of Michael's sons, Joseph married Elizabeth Malavery (Maverick?). Joseph died Sep. 3, 1719 and Elizabeth died after 1719. Joseph and Elizabeth had 7 children, John, Joseph, David, Daniel, Elizabeth, Phebe, and Jeremiah. I'm pretty confident that David Phillips is the Father of Solomon.
I speculated that Solomon Phillips Mother was Susannah Burgess. I had picked that name up from several sources but some sources gave the name as Susannah Bumpas. When we were on our trip in Rhode Island, I had obtained a copy of microfilm data re: the marriage of David Phillips and Susannah. That record did not look like Burgess but rather Bumpas, but it was very difficult to read and the majority of other sources suggested Burgess.

Title: Bompasse, Bumpas, Bump, Bumpus & Allied Families 1621-1981
Author: Carle Franklin Bumpus.
The book chronicles the arrival of Edouad Bompasse, probably of Huguenot lineage, (Edward Bumpas), into the Plymouth Colony on board the ship "Fortune" on Nov. 10, 1621.
The book also lays out genealogical information on Edward's descendants. Edward and his wife Hannah had about 12 children. One son Jacob, had a son Icabod b. Sept. 19, 1685. Icabod had a daughter Susanna b. abt. 1723, who married David Phillips, on Apr. 19, 1741,
Note: this is the marriage I obtained the microfilm copy on. Interestingly, Edward Bumpas had another son by the name of John Bumpas who had a daughter Mary Bump, who married an Isaac Benson in Sandwich, Mass. on Mar 17, 1698/9. Isaac Benson and Mary Bump had a daughter Ruth Benson, b Oct. 7, 1704. Ruth Benson married David Phillips. This marriage is recorded in the Providence, RI Town Hall as we determined on our visit. The interesting part is that David Phillips' wives were cousins.
