Samuel Wood

Generation 1

Samuel Wood, d. 5 Mar 1829 at Brookfield, Worcester, Massachusetts. His birth date is not known and his parents have not been identified. I believe him to be the son of Thomas Wood and Mary Taylor. If so, he would have been 83 at the time of his death. Samuel left a will dated 17 Jan 1826, in which he names his living children and their spouses in the case of his daughters. His will was filed on 14 Apr 1829 but was not allowed because of a problem with the witnesses.

He married 5 Dec 1770 at Brookfield, Worcester, Massachusetts Abigail Moor, b. 9 Mar 1748 at Brookfield, Worcester, Massachusetts, d. 30 Nov 1837 at Brookfield, Worcester, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Thomas Moor and Ruth Nickels.

  • Sukey Wood, b. 7 Jan 1782 at Brookfield, Worcester, Massachusetts. Her marriage record gives her name as Susannah. She married 20 Jan 1805 at Brookfield, Worcester, Massachusetts Duty Sanford. No children listed.
  • Thomas Wood, b. 27 Jan 1784 at Brookfield, Worcester, Massachusetts. He married 10 Oct 1804 at Brookfield, Worcester, Massachusetts Betsy Crowell, b. 20 Feb 1786 at Brookfield, Worcester, Vermont.
  • Nabby Wood, b. 18 Nov 1786 at Brookfield, Worcester, Massachusetts, d. 7 Jun 1789 at Brookfield, Worcester, Massachusetts She was only 2y 6m 20d.
  • John Wood, b. 25 Feb 1789 at Brookfield, Worcester, Massachusetts.
  • Mary Wood, b. 1792 at Brookfield, Worcester, Massachusetts, ch. 1 Apr 1792 at Brookfield, Worcester, Massachusetts.  She married 31 May 1818 at Brookfield, Worcester, Massachusetts John Brown Jr. Their marriage record lists him as being from Raymond, New Hampshire.

Generation 2

Samuel Wood Jr., b. 15 Apr 1776 at Brookfield, Worcester, Massachusetts, d. 31 May 1857 at Barnard, Windsor, Vermont, at the age of 81 of heart disease. He is buried in Barnard, Windsor, Vermont at The Village Cemetery along with his wife Lucy and many of their children. He was a farmer. Samuel lived and died on the side of the Delectable Mountains in the western part of the town on the brook to which he gave his name.

He left a will dated 17 July 1854 in which he names his living children and his current wife, which is included as part of his Probate Record.

He married 21 Jun 1798 at Brookfield, Massachusetts Livinia Waterman, b. 21 May 1776 at Brookfield, Worcester, Massachusetts, d. 1 May 1800 at Brookfield, Massachusetts, bur. at Old Cemetery, West Brookfield, Massachusetts.

He then married 7 Apr 1803 at Brookfield, Worcester, Massachusetts Lucy Ayres, b. 23 Sep 1777 at Brookfield, Worcester, Massachusetts, d. 27 Jan 1835 at Barnard, Windsor, Vermont, bur. at Village Cemetery, Barnard, Vermont. She was the daughter of Moses Ayres and Lucy Cutting.

He then married 20 Feb 1838 at Bethel, Vermont Mary Polly Hincher, b. 22 Nov 1793 at Bethel, Windsor, Vermont, d. 25 Mar 1876 at Barnard, Windsor, Vermont, bur. at Barnard, Windsor, Vermont with Samuel.
